Masaka Diocese Priest Fr. Bonny Kalyesubula Dies in Bukomansimbi Road Crash

The Catholic Diocese of Masaka has announced the death of Rev. Fr. Bonny Kalyesubula, the diocesan head of construction projects and parish priest of Kitaasa Parish in Bukomansimbi District.

Fr. Kalyesubula died in a road accident in Bukomansimbi District during the early hours of Thursday after his vehicle collided with a fuel tanker.

Southern Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said the crash occurred along the Villa Maria–Bukomansimbi–Sembabule Road, killing the priest at the scene.

Masaka Diocesan Chancellor Rev. Fr. Charles Jude Jjuuko described Fr. Kalyesubula’s death as a loss to the diocese, citing his contribution to church development projects.

“Fr. Bonny Kalyesubula was a dedicated servant of God whose contribution to the development of the diocese, especially in the construction sector, was invaluable,” Fr. Jjuuko said.

He said Fr. Kalyesubula played a key role in supervising construction projects across the diocese.

“Fr. Bonny was the eye and pillar of construction works within the diocese. He was dependable and committed to ensuring that projects were completed successfully,” he added.

The Chairperson of the Masaka Diocesan Laity Council, Regina Kitaka, said Christians were shocked by the news because Fr. Kalyesubula had attended a meeting at Kitovu Sports Arena on Wednesday evening, shortly before the accident.

“The news of Fr. Kalyesubula’s death has deeply shocked us. Many of us were with him at a meeting at Kitovu Sports Arena yesterday evening, and it is difficult to believe that he is no longer with us,” Kitaka said.

The diocese has released the burial programme for the late priest.

  • 2:00 PM – Funeral Mass
  • 4:00 PM – Burial at Bukalasa Minor Seminary in Kalungu District

Clergy, church leaders, and faithful from across Masaka Diocese are expected to attend the funeral ceremonies.
